ENCAUSTIC PAINTING
Kathryn Bevier, Instructor, Rochester Art Supply
Encaustic painting is quickly becoming a desirable medium for contemporary artists, students and professionals alike. The technique dates from the 4th century BC Greece and involves working with pigment, wax and heat. Encaustic paintings are created by layering melted wax mixed with pigment and applied with a variety of tools. Heat is added at each layer so the effects build to create an ethereal quality of color, intriguing textures and translucent surfaces. Students will learn the process including detailing, surface textures and scratching techniques. The paint is solvent free so there is no need of turpentine or mineral spirits. Bring a bag lunch.
2 Days: Sat. and Sun., September 6-7, 10-4 PM both days.
Tuition: $250
