The opening reception, held Friday, March 5, 2010, 6-8PM, showcased and impressive array of 2-D and 3-D artwork from the area finest artists. Tapas, Wine and pianist William Niell delighted the crowd. This eclectic exhibition is open 'til April 16, 2010 with a Shoe Workshop on March 28 where you can create your own ARTful Shoe!

In spring 2010, the cultural community in Virginia will celebrate the arts with performances, exhibitions, literary readings and films on the theme of Women in the Arts.  Virginia artists and cultural organization are invited to participate by presenting programs for the public between March and June of 2010 featuring Women in the Arts. These many state-wide cultural events will be marketed as MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts.

As part of this state-wide collaboration, the d'ART Center is inviting artists from Virginia and beyond to be part of this state -wide event.  The Center will be presenting A Shoe of Her Own opening on March 5 and continuing through April 16, 2010.

Reminiscent of the Virginia Woolf essay espousing the need for women writers to have their own room in order to enjoy uninterrupted writing time, the d'ART Center' exhibition invites visual artists to present artwork which is biographical and/or autobiographical using the shoe as a symbol that provides women the freedom of personal expression, movement, independence and stability in order to step up to their artistic talent and strut their creative spirit. 

ARTFul Shoe CONTEST!
To inspire creativity in Hampton Roads male and female art patrons the d'ART Center's Opening reception on Friday, March 5, 2010 will feature and ARTful Shoe Contest. Patrons are encouraged to get creative and wear fun & funky shoes that express themselves. The winner will be selected on March 5 and receive a d'ART Center prize.

B.Y.O.S - Bring Your Own Shoe  - Sneakers, High Heels, Baby Shoes ... to d'ART's ARTful Shoe Workshop. 

d'ART's Award winning instructor, Artist Clayton Singleton, will help you step up your own artistic talent to create a Show of Your Own. Paints, fabric, feathers and more will be availble to bedazzle your very own ARTful shoe!
