d'ART for LUNCH
Oil Painting @ Lunch

Get artistic at lunch and re-charge your creative juices. It's both non-caloric and low carb. We'll have you back at work on time invigorated and refreshed.
Students will learn to see shapes instead of lines in this ‘paint what you see, not what you know' approach. Individual instruction will be emphasized in this "Impressionistic" method with a focus on subject matter, composition, materials as well as personal expression. Demonstrations and critiques will also be included. Open to both beginning and more advanced students. Please call 757-625-4211 for list of materials.

d'ART ADULT EVENING CLASSES
THEORY & PRACTICE OF PAINTING

For ages 15 - Adult, beginning and experienced painters.
This class provides instruction on methods and materials of painting tailored to the individual needs of the students. Exercises and critiques will cover the basics of color, value, shape and composition with an emphasis on the process of seeing. Instruction ranges from painting exercises for beginners to the exploration of highly specific solutions of individualized problems for the more experinced painters. Add in lively art discussions and an occasional trip to local museums and you have ingredients for a fun learning experience.
Mediums include oil, acrylic and watercolor - your choice!

Beginning & Beyond DRAWING

For Ages 15- Adult. Learn to see as an artist as you learn to draw. Students will explore basic techniques of art as they use a variety of media including charcoal, pen and ink, pastels, oil sticks, and graphite and experiment with line and form, value and shading, composition and design, visualization and sight measurement. This is a great class for those just starting out or for those who are painting already and want to improve their drawing skills.

Hand Building in Clay

Construction of clay vessels and objects goes beyond throwing on the wheel. Come learn how to construct slabs, coils, tiles, embossing, wax resist and a very special technique from the orient, Japanese coil building.Functional and sculptural objects will be bisque fired and glaze fired. For both beginning and continuing students with a desire to expand their knowledge of clay construction techniques producing art that can be shared and will display inner-artist abilities. Personal expression and direction are encouraged.

Wheel Throwing Ceramics

Get started on a lifetime hobby of expressing your creative skills.For beginners who have not experiences the thrill of creating vessels by hand on a potter's wheel. Get your hands wet, learn wedging techniques and how to develop functional forms on the wheel. Objects will be bisque fired and glaze fired in a kiln on premises.
8 Sessions: Wednesdays, Sept. 22- Nov. 10, 5:45p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Sunday Clay @d'ART

What better day to practice a great form of relaxation! This class is for those who have fallen in love with throwing clay and find if difficult to work it in during the work week. Students must have working knowledge of wedging, centering and throwing. For continuing students.
8 Sessions: Sundays: Sept. 19 - Nov. 7, 2:30-4:30 p.m.

EXTRA USE OF POTTERY CLASS ROOM : Tuition includes additional use of pottery class room during d'ART Center's hours of operation. Exceptions include times of other scheduled pottery classes and special events.
WORLD IN A PIXEL
Karl Watson, InstructorFor ages 15- Adult. This class will help expand your vision and get the most from your digital camera. Your photography will improve as you learn to better use "the setup" of your digital camera, computer and post camera software (such as Google's free Picasa). From in-class critiques, to mid-week e-mail discussion to a trip to the Chrysler Museum, students will focus on the world of pixels and photography. There will be a strong emphasis on both the basics of photography and creative approaches to taking pictures.

WATERCOLOR: Beginning/Intermediate

MAKE IT & TAKE IT WORKSHOPS
Custom Jewelry WORKSHOP

Create the jewelry of your dreams! Working with wire, students will learn fabrication, design and finishing techniques. By class end earring, rings and bracelets in cooper, bronze and sterling will be completed. Open to ages 16 and up. No previous experience needed.
2 Sessions: Sat & Sun, Sept 18 & 19 1-4 PM both days
Tuition: $65 Materials: $25 (Includes 100 grams of metal clay and firing fee)
Introduction to Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Workshop
Deb Munroe, Instructor
PMC contains particles of copper, water and binder. The clay can be modeled by hand with tools and by pressing it into shallow open molds. The clay object is fired in an electric kiln, transforming it into a solid cooper object. The fired piece can be soldered and otherwise treated similarly to manufactured metal. Students will work with the PMC to make earrings, pendants and bracelets learning skills in texture and molding. PMC allows creative spontaneity and can result in any style of jewelry. No experience necessary. For ages 16 and up.
