Dan is a self-taught watercolor and sumié artist and continues to expand his study of the Eastern styles. He finds peace in a Zen-like approach to letting the brush lead the way across the paper. “Follow the brush and the brush follows you.”

His works capture the life and movement of nature and the world around us, sometimes in full color, and other times in minimalistic black and white.

Dan began his journey with ink and brush in 2016 with a gifted sumi-é set. After a couple of years of selling and gifting art to through his social media, Dan was given the opportunity to exhibit at Norfolk Botanical Gardens during their 2018 Lantern Asia Event. Since then he has participated in 5 other exhibitions. His artwork can be found in Germany, the UK, India, Canada and the US.

Years of training as a martial artist has given Dan a deep appreciation for the Asian style of art and influences his approach to his works. During his training Dan earned the name Shinobi Okami (Patient/Enduring Wolf), the name he signs to all of his works.

Having worked as a lifeguard, land surveyor, and kayaking tour guide has provided him with a lifetime of inspiration for his paintings.
