Kristen Salai is a hyperrealist oil painter creating food-centric still life paintings. She primarily focuses on sugary foods that hold nostalgic significance from childhood. She chooses each of her food-related subjects with the intent of evoking feelings of joy and wistfulness in her viewers. She has studied painting under Janice Hindes of San Antonio, TX and Texas State University painting professors Tommy Fitzpatrick, Holly Veselka, and Shawn Camp. She has been in group exhibitions with American Women Artists, D’Art Center in Norfolk, VA, the Aanna Reyes Gallery in San Antonio, TX, and the Student Juried Exhibition at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX with Juror Natalie Bell, Associate Curator at the New Museum, New York, NY.  Her paintings, Box of Donuts, Life, and Macaron Rainbow, have all received awards in separate exhibitions.  Kristen graduated from Texas State University in 2021 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting.  She lives and works in Richmond, Virginia.
