Ralph Irby, a native of Norfolk, Va., is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired Norfolk Master Police Officer (investigator), with over twenty five years of service. He has been a resident artist at the d’Art Center since 2004, and is currently assigned to Studio #208. He teaches drawing and design courses at Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University respectively. He also provides art instruction and mentoring at various locations throughout the community. His work has been exhibited worldwide and throughout the United States. His work has been featured in magazines, journals, and most recently in a book to be published by Johns Hopkins University Press. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his artwork. He has been commissioned to create paintings and drawings for the military, business and individual patrons. It is his charity work that brings him the greatest joy.
