Will Jordan - Associate - Abstract Artist
Will Jordan is an abstract artist who has been on a transformational art journey since he began putting purpose in his art since 2015. He was born in San Diego, California, and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia, and has always been interested in artistic expression since he was a child. It was not until he began his college career that he decided to dedicate himself to and pursue art as a career and lifestyle. In 2015, Will began studying art at Hampton University, and committed to strengthening and expanding upon his passion. For four years, he gained hands-on experience with painting, drawing, printmaking, spray painting, ceramics, photography, and graphic design. While completing his classroom cultivated art projects, he had a yearning to develop his style and make his creations more unique and personal. This led to him taking a liking to the notable artists Pablo Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The discovery of these artists intrigued and inspired him, causing him to begin using them as a source of influence when developing his style. He began drawing faces alone, and for five years, these faces have evolved into more complex images. The abstract figures can be seen taking part in everyday activities, such as drinking, playing music, and reading. Will Jordan also incorporates symbolic objects in his work such as flowers, butterflies, rabbits and birds which signify his growth and desire for freedom and prosperity.
The idea behind Will Jordan's art is to create an abstract version of people and objects to cause viewers to look at things from a different perspective. This allows viewers to have more freedom when judging the art as well as formulating a story and emotional response in their minds.
