"I have been very happily playing in mud for many years, and enjoy both throwing on the wheel and hand building. I love the discipline of the wheel but there is a particular joy in hand building shapes and designs outside the normal scope of thrown work. I find deep satisfaction in creating (and using) pieces that appeal to the senses combined with good function. I have studied with several talented potters over the years, and enjoy learning the amazing variety of techniques that people employ in creating interesting and beautiful effects in clay.

My spiritual life imbues my craft and my work is nourished by spending time outdoors, particularly in wilderness setting. One of my most satisfying experiences was camping solo on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and hand building in that gorgeous outdoor environment. But I can be quite content working in my own yard, under the trees and with birds and squirrels as companions!"
